Titled “Exemplary Quranic Woman: Role of Woman in Formation of Islamic Civilization in View of Holy Quran”, it was organized both in-person and online on Sunday night.

Iranian scholar Zeynab Barkhordari was among those addressing the webinar.

She referred to verse 189 of Surah A’araf of the Holy Quran: “It is He who created you from a soul. From it He created its mate, so that he might reside with her. And when he had covered her, she conceived, and for a time her burden was light. She carried it with ease, but when it grew heavy, they both supplicated to Allah, their Lord: ‘Grant us a goodly child and we will be among the thankful,’” and said the Holy Book views men and women as equal in the humanity.

She also said the role of women in the new Islamic civilization will be based on recognition of them and their human dignity.

Another speaker, Lebanese Quran researcher Naziha Salih, also said that in Islam’s view, men and women have been created from one essence and their status in religious and human terms is determined not by their gender but by their religious character.

She said in the Quran and Islam women’s rights have been recognized and they have similar rights in terms of faith in God.

Another Iranian scholar, Narges Heshmati, in her speech stressed the revolution brought about by Islam in the status of women in society.

She said it contributed to the creation of a golden era in the Islamic civilization, adding that in order to gain a development in civilization today, that era should be viewed as a model.

The 29th Tehran International Quran Exhibition is underway at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) here in the Iranian capital.
